Overview

Commissioning Mechanical Lead

Leading Mission-Critical Commissioning Agency | San Jose, CA or Atlanta, GA

A well-established, nationally recognised commissioning and QA/QC firm is expanding its data center practice to meet surging hyperscale demand. This is a hands-on technical leadership role at the heart of a major active project - with a growing national programme and real progression behind it.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead all mechanical commissioning activities across a major hyperscale data center project from L2 through systems acceptance

  • Execute and oversee testing and verification of mechanical systems including HVAC, cooling, plumbing, and associated controls

  • Review mechanical commissioning procedures, test scripts, and documentation for accuracy and completeness

  • Coordinate mechanical scope with the Cx PM, other discipline leads, subcontractors, and the client team

  • Identify, log, and drive resolution of mechanical deficiencies and punch list items

  • Ensure all mechanical systems are commissioned in line with project specifications, design intent, and client requirements

  • Mentor field technicians and junior mechanical staff on-site

  • Support the broader commissioning programme - contributing to a national data center practice that's actively being built out

What you'll need

  • 5+ years of recent, hands-on data center commissioning experience in a mechanical lead or senior field role

  • Background from a commissioning agency, general contractor, or data center owner/developer - you've led mechanical Cx scope, not just supported it

  • Deep working knowledge of data center mechanical systems - cooling infrastructure, CRAC/CRAH, chilled water, BMS integration

  • Strong grasp of commissioning documentation, test procedures, and issue tracking on complex, live projects

  • Based in, or able to relocate to, San Jose, CA or Atlanta, GA

  • Comfortable with full-time on-site commitments (current project runs through mid-2027)

Bonus if you have

  • Crossover familiarity with electrical systems and MEP coordination

  • Experience on hyperscale or large campus data center builds

  • Exposure to L0-L5 commissioning workflows across multiple projects or clients

What's in it for you

  • $160,000-$190,000 base salary

  • $4,750/month per diem on project, plus $800/month travel home allowance

  • Flexible Time Off - no fixed cap, managed by you with team coordination

  • 401(k) with up to 6% employer match

  • Project performance, division, and company bonuses

  • 2-week structured onboarding with a managed handover period

  • A growing national Cx practice with clear progression as the programme scales across ATL, VA, TX, and beyond
